The Michigan Wolverines and the Xavier Musketeers

The Michigan Wolverines are taking on the Xavier Musketeers this Wednesday in a college basketball game at Suncoast Credit Union Arena. Let's dive into a prediction for the Michigan vs Xavier matchup. We'll check it out from a betting angle to figure out the best pick for Michigan vs Xavier.

The Xavier Musketeers Team Preview!

Xavier Musketeers Betting Preview

Over on the Xavier side, they’ve gotten through a half-dozen games without a blemish thus far. The Musketeers have dispatched Texas Southern, IUPUI, Jackson State, Wake Forest, Siena and South Carolina in succession during that time.

When they played South Carolina on Monday, the Musketeers were down by five points at halftime. But then Xavier made a big comeback with a 46-32 run and ended up winning 75-66. Zach Freemantle was the top scorer with 16 points, and Daily Swain chipped in 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.

The Wolverines blew out Cleveland State in their opener, then took their first loss of the year in a tough outcome 72-70 versus Wake Forest. Since then Michigan has hit their stride with wins over TCU, Miami-OH, Tarleton State and Virginia Tech.

During the Virginia Tech game on Monday, the Wolverines started the second half with just a one-point lead. But then Michigan went on a 41-30 run and ended up winning 75-63. Roddy Gayle led the team with 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

The Pick: Xavier ML +130

I'm sticking with Xavier here. The Musketeers started off slow against South Carolina in their last game, but they really stepped up in the second half. By the end, they were shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and had a solid 41-31 lead in rebounds. Interestingly, the 75 points they scored matched their lowest total of the year, so if they play well on Wednesday, we can expect them to beat that score.

Why the Xavier Musketeers will win

  • Xavier has won each of its last six games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

  • Michigan has lost nine of its last 11 games played at neutral venues.

  • Michigan has lost the first half in five of its last six games against AP-ranked opponents.
