Sharks continue to live in The Desert with 2-0 Preseason Road Victory over the Vegas Golden Knights

There was nothing Vegas about tonight’s preseason matchup between the San Jose Sharks and your Defending Stanley Cup Champion, Vegas Golden Knights. If you live in Vegas and you have followed his team since its inception, then you know that tonight was not like any other hockey game at T-Mobile arena. Normally, even in the preseason setting, you would get a sellout crowd with sounds and yells and screams as if you were at a playoff game basically playoff atmosphere hockey no matter what.

That didn’t seem to be the case tonight as the crowd of 17,000+ trickled in but also trickled out fairly early in this match up. The one thing that I noticed that was a bit odd to me, was numerous fans seemed to be more interested in getting their Free VGK Banners than actually being there to watch the game tonight. I remember the days when preseason hockey meant everything to these fans.

I know some might be reading this and say, well you’re bashing the team in a preseason game. Let me tell you that is not the case here. One thing I’ve come to realize is that I must give an unbiased opinion, even though I am a fan of the team because at the end of the day, this is not about fandom it’s about speaking the truth, and speaking about what we see in front of us as journalists. I truly believe that at the end of the day, the Vegas Golden Knights will be ready to go next Tuesday night when they take on the Seattle Kraken at T-Mobile arena for the season opener.

This preseason is full of opportunities for some that are trying to fill a roster spot that many are coveting. I wanted to know what some of these veteran players thought of some of the young players that are trying to make that roster spot. So I caught up with William Carrier in the post game, locker room interviews and ask him if anyone in particular has stuck out to him. “No they’re all pretty good.” Said Will. “ I’m starting to realize that I’m kind of the older guy, right?” He said with a smile on his face.

Now, as for the play on the ice. The first period of play was nothing more than a tryout. The lineup full of young players, some unproven talent, all trying to find their way onto this championship roster. For the majority of the first period the team seemed out of sync and just not connecting and being able to play right with each other. It was clearly shown during their very first power-play, where they could not get anything going whatsoever. But when it was all said and done and the final horn sounded. The Defending Champs went down at home 2-0 to their bitter rivals, the San Jose Sharks.

Final Stats Per ESPN:

One thing is for certain and you can definitely see it and hear it when they speak. The veteran and core leadership of this team is definitely ready to go and get the regular season and their title defense started as soon as possible. The Vegas Golden Knights return home on Thursday night for their final preseason home game against the Colorado Avalanche with a 7 PM puck drop live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Nevada.
