Back on August 31 the Rebels opened the season versus the Houston Cougars. UNLV scored in every quarter on the way to a 27-7 win. WB Matthew Sluka had 71 yards with two TDs, and Michael Allen led the rushers on 65 yards off 10 carries.

So, last weekend when the Rebels played against Utah Tech, they totally crushed it! They scored 28 points in the first half and added 21 more in the fourth quarter, ending the game with a massive 72-14 victory. Sluka had a great game, racking up 161 yards and scoring three touchdowns. And let's not forget Greg Burrell, who led the rushing game with 101 yards and a touchdown from 11 carries.

The Kansas Jayhawks Team Preview

Over on the Kansas side, they opened with a formality versus Lindenwood. The Jayhawks had no issues in that one, ultimately bagging a 48-3 win. Jalon Daniels had 148 pass yards, one TD and a pick. Devin Neal had 112 yards with two scores on the ground.

So, in the game against Illinois on Saturday, Kansas was up 17-13 going into the last quarter. But then, out of nowhere, they let Illinois score 10 points in a row and ended up losing 23-17. Daniels did his best with 141 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. Neal also did a great job as the top rusher, running 101 yards with 14 carries.

The Pick: Kansas Jayhawks -6.5 -110

I’ll go with Kansas this time. The Jayhawks had the wind knocked out of their sails by a plucky Illini team over the weekend, so they’ll need a good bounce-back effort. Kansas posted 327 yards (141 passing) and 18 first downs in the loss, but the real killer was the four turnovers (three interceptions). On defense the Jayhawks weren’t bad, giving up 271 total yards (192 passing) and 14 first downs.

UNLV dominated with an impressive 504 rush yards out of 695 total against Utah Tech. The competition is about to get tougher, but I'm confident that Kansas will step up and make a strong statement this weekend.
