The BC Lions Team Preview!

The Lions just barely snagged a 21-20 victory against the Alouettes in their last game. Quarterback Nathan Rourke threw for 352 yards and a touchdown, though he did have one interception. On the ground, James Butler led the team with 41 rushing yards, but couldn't find the end zone. Justin McInnis was a standout receiver, racking up 109 yards. Overall, the Lions' offense averages 20.8 points per game, ranking 9th in the league, but their passing game is strong, averaging 294.6 yards per game (2nd in the CFL).

Their defense is pretty solid too, currently ranked 1st in the CFL by giving up only 321.8 total yards per game, including a league-best 185.4 passing yards per game. However, they're 5th in points allowed at 26.4 per game, and they've given up 136.4 rushing yards per game.

Lions Injuries: DeWayne Hendrix DL (Out), Jonah Tavai DL (Questionable), Adam Auclair LB (Out), Michael Couture OL (Out), Tibo Debaille DL (Out), Zander Horvath RB (Out).

The Edmonton Elks

Team Preview!

Edmonton Elks CFL

The Elks recently beat the Redblacks in a 39-33 shootout! Justin Rankin was a beast on the ground, rushing for 105 yards on just 12 carries, including an awesome 74-yard touchdown run. In the air, Steven Dunbar led receivers with 55 yards on 6 catches, and quarterback Tre Ford had a fantastic game, completing 15 of 17 passes for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions.

Offensively this season, the Elks are averaging 26.0 points per game (6th in the league) and racking up 335.8 total yards per game (8th in the league), with a pretty even split between passing (218.8 yards/game) and rushing (117.0 yards/game). However, their defense has been struggling, giving up 34.5 points per game (9th in the league) and a lot of yards through the air (323.2 yards/game) as well as on the ground (102.5 yards/game).

Elks Injuries: Etava Mauga-Clements LB (Out), Robbie Smith DL (Out).

The BC Lions vs Elks

Game Prediction!

BC Lions

THE PICK: BC LIONS -2.5 -110

The BC Lions, with Nathan Rourke back at the helm, are looking like a strong bet against the Edmonton Elks. After a solid win last week where Rourke threw for 352 yards and a touchdown, the Lions' offense is clearly back on track. Rourke's dual-threat ability, consistently racking up over 40 rushing yards per game, adds another dimension that Edmonton's defense struggled with in Week 1, when BC put up 31 points on them.

The Elks defense is giving up a league-worst 7.65 yards per play and letting quarterbacks complete nearly 78% of their passes, as seen in their recent game against Ottawa where they gave up over 400 yards of offense.

While Edmonton did manage a narrow win last week, it was their first of the season and the first time they hadn't lost by double digits. Considering BC easily covered a 4.5-point spread in their Week 1 matchup against the Elks, backing the Lions at -2.5 this time around feels like a smart play.
