Lets Preview this years favorites & their Odds
Georgia is favored to win the title this season, despite missing out on a third consecutive national championship opportunity by losing to Alabama in the previous season's SEC title game. Alabama, currently ranked fifth, reached the CFP in the last season but was defeated by eventual champion Michigan in the semifinals.
In the initial College Football Playoff odds, the current title holder Wolverines are ranked 11th. Ohio State has advanced to the second position, with Texas and Oregon close behind. The SEC teams LSU and Ole Miss are the only other contenders with odds of +2000 or lower at the majority of authorized online sportsbooks. Penn State, Notre Dame, and Florida State are closely trailing, while Tennessee and Clemson are striving to break into the top 12.
2024/25 College Football Playoff format changes and recent history
Since 2014, the College Football Playoff has been in place, replacing the Bowl Championship Series and the BCS national championship game that were previously used to decide the annual champion in college football. The upcoming season will mark the transition from the four-team playoff format, with two of the New Year’s Six bowl games acting as semifinals, to a 12-team format.
Automatic bids will be given to the top five conference champions, while the remaining seven spots will be filled by the next highest-ranked teams. Following this selection, the teams will be seeded from No. 1 to No. 12, with the top four seeds earning a bye in the first round. The College Football Playoff is scheduled to start on Dec. 20 and end with the national championship game on Jan. 20, 2025.
First round: Dec. 20-21 (campus sites)
Quarterfinals: Dec. 31-Jan. 1 (Fiesta, Peach, Rose, and Sugar bowls)
Semifinals: Jan. 9-10 (Orange and Cotton Bowl)
National championship: Jan. 20 (Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta)
Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia have been the most dominant teams since the playoff format was introduced. Together, they have claimed seven out of the 10 championships, and at least one of these teams has participated in eight title games.
SEC teams have been a dominant force in the College Football Playoff era, with six of the 10 champions coming out of that conference. The first and most recent year of the four-team format are the only title games to date that have not featured at least one SEC team.

Who Will Win the 2025
College Football National Championship, National Championship Contenders & Sleeper Predictions!
The Georgia Bulldogs to Win The Championship(+300)
It is no surprise that the Bulldogs are the top contenders to win the National Championship.
Despite not making it to the College Football Playoff last season, Kirby Smart’s team has secured the best recruiting class in the country and added several impactful transfers, such as running back Trevor Etienne from Florida.
Quarterback Carson Beck, who threw for nearly 4,000 yards last season, returns for his senior year and is among the favorites in the Heisman Trophy odds.
Despite facing tough opponents like Clemson and Florida in neutral-site games, as well as playing on the road against Alabama and Texas in 2024, Georgia's schedule is challenging. However, the team boasts a deep and well-rounded roster, positioning UGA as a strong contender for their third national championship in four years.
The Bulldogs will open the season as the No. 1 team in the country and are a worthy play as one of our college football best bets.

Top Contenders!
The Ohio State Buckeyes (+380)
The Buckeyes endured significant turnover this offseason with the departures of 2023 Biletnikoff winner Marvin Harrison Jr. and quarterback Kyle McCord, who transferred to Syracuse. However, Ryan Day’s squad brings in top-10 recruiting and transfer classes, which should go a long way to replenishing the talent pool.
Will Howard, a transfer from Kansas State, is poised to become the starting quarterback on the offensive side, while Quinshon Judkins, a former RB from Ole Miss, will provide the Buckeyes' backfield with a versatile duo alongside TreVeyon Henderson. Additionally, the defense is expected to make further progress in its third year under defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
Ohio State will likely benefit from the 12-team playoff format, as their path to the National Championship had been obstructed by Jim Harbaugh's Michigan in the previous three seasons. With Harbaugh's return to the NFL and several Big Ten teams expected to make it to the College Football Playoff in the conference's 18-team configuration, the Buckeyes should see positive outcomes.
Ohio State’s schedule features challenging tests at Oregon and Penn State, but the Buckeyes will be favored in all eight home games, including their date with arch-rival Wolverines on Nov. 30.
I’d rather bet Georgia at a similar price, but the Buckeyes should be in the mix come season’s end.
The Oregon Ducks (+750)
The Ducks narrowly missed out on a spot in the expanded CFP field last season due to two close losses to Washington, preventing Dan Lanning's team from competing for a National Championship. Despite this setback, Lanning has assembled a strong roster in Eugene by securing top-three recruiting and transfer classes, positioning the Ducks to be contenders in their inaugural season in the Big Ten. With the addition of Oklahoma transfer Dillon Gabriel at quarterback, replacing Heisman Trophy finalist Bo Nix, and bolstering the pass defense with new acquisitions, Oregon is poised for improvement. The team has also benefited from a favorable schedule, hosting Ohio State and Washington while avoiding Penn State. If Gabriel can maintain his health, the Ducks have a genuine chance of contending for the National Championship.

Top Sleepers to Watch!
The Penn State Nittany Lions(+2200)
Historically, Penn State has often been overshadowed in the Big Ten East, typically coming in third place behind Michigan and Ohio State. Nevertheless, the Nittany Lions are now in a position to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff for the very first time.
James Franklin’s squad returns 74% of its offensive production and 66% of its defensive production from the team that won 10 games a season ago and got an ideal schedule draw. Penn State will welcome Ohio State to Happy Valley on Nov. 2 and avoids traditionally strong teams like Oregon, Washington, and Michigan.
as long as quarterback Drew Allar can take the next step in his development, especially in the vertical passing game, where he struggled last season, the Nittany Lions should make the playoff. Can they win the natty? Franklin’s record in big games would indicate that’s probably a step too far.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish(+2200)
Notre Dame is another big winner of the 12-team playoff format, as its lack of a conference championship is no longer the significant hindrance it was in years past.
Despite a disappointing 9-3 campaign, the Fighting Irish start the season ranked as the No. 7 team in the AP Top 25. They have the potential for a comeback due to a solid talent pool and an easy schedule.
Notre Dame will face just three ranked teams (Texas A&M, Florida State, and USC) and is currently favored to win them all except the Week 1 showdown in College Station.
The game against the Aggies may arrive sooner than expected, particularly for an offense that has a new offensive coordinator (Mike Denbrock), a new quarterback (Riley Leonard, a transfer from Duke), and has lost standout LT Joe Alt to the NFL.
Still, the Fighting Irish should win 10-plus games and compete for the No. 5 seed. Winning three playoff games will be tough, but Marcus Freeman’s team has a chance to overcome these longer odds.
