The FAU Team Preview
The FAU Owls will try to take a step in the right direction in year two of the Tom Herman era in Boca Raton after finishing the 2023 season with a 4-8 record including a 3-5 mark in AAC conference play. Cam Fancher leads a new-look FAU offense after transferring over from Marshall following a 2023 campaign where he threw for 2,162 yards, 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while also rushing for 273 yards. Zuberi Mobley is the top returning running back, but don’t be surprised if Florida State transfer CJ Campbell eventually becomes the RB1 for the Owls.
BJ Alexander is gonna be the main guy catching passes for FAU this season, but they've also got Marlyn Johnson and Milan Tucker joining the team as transfers from Buffalo and App State. Over on defense, Marlon Bradley is looking to stay healthy and make a big impact on the d-line with Prince Boyd, who came over from Purdue. And don't forget about Jackson Ambush, he's back after racking up 89 tackles last year. Plus, Phillip Dunnam and Kahzir Brown are coming in from Indiana and Maine to help out in the secondary, which could use some more experience.

The Michigan State Team Preview
The Michigan State Spartans come in with a new voice leading the charge in East Lansing, with Jonathan Smith coming over from Oregon State to lead the Spartans after leading the Beavers to three straight winning seasons and three straight bowl games for the first time in the program since Mike Riley did it back in 2006-09. Aidan Chiles comes with his coach from Corvallis to lead QB duties for the Spartans and he will have some solid receivers at his disposal. Montorie Foster led MSU with 43 grabs and 576 receiving yards last year while Jaron Glover averaged 18.6 yards per reception and Jack Veiling also comes over from Oregon State at tight end.
Hey, so the Spartans are looking pretty solid this year! They've got some awesome running backs - Nate Carter put up 798 rushing yards and 4 TDs last season, and Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams is joining from UMass after rushing for 1,157 yards and 12 TDs. On the defensive side, the front seven lost some key players, but they've brought in some new talent through the transfer portal like Jordan Turner and Wayne Matthews from Wisconsin and Old Dominion at linebacker. Plus, Quandaries Dunnigan, D’Quan Douse, and Ben Roberts are coming in from Middle Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Oregon to beef up the trenches. Malik Spencer is set to lead the Spartan secondary, especially since Jaden Mangham transferred to rival Michigan.

The FAU vs. Michigan State
Game Prediction
The Pick: Michigan State -13.5
I'm checking out Michigan State here. Both teams will have a fresh look in 2024, but what stands out to me is that Michigan State seems to have better new players coming in loaded with talent. Jonathan Smith has a knack for turning struggling programs around, as he did at Oregon State. Now, I believe he's going to work his magic in East Lansing. He's brought in some really talented players, and overall, I'm more impressed with where Michigan State is heading. FAU doesn't attract the top recruits like other Florida schools, and even though Tom Herman is a good coach, I think his team is facing a tough challenge in this matchup. My bet is on Michigan State ATS.
