To start us off we have a big matchup between the Kansas Jayhawks and the BYU Cougars who meet Saturday in college football action from LaVell Edwards Stadium. Here’s a Kansas vs BYU prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Kansas vs BYU pick.
The Kansas Jayhawks Team Preview!
The Jayhawks beat Lindenwood in their opener this year, then hit a losing streak versus Illinois, UNLV, West Virginia, TCU, and Arizona State. Kansas would beat Houston 42-14 but then fell to Kansas State 29-27 the next weekend.
So, in Saturday's game against Iowa State, Kansas started strong with a 35-13 lead at halftime and managed to secure the win with a final score of 45-36. Jalon Daniels did his thing with 295 passing yards and two touchdowns (plus a rushing TD), and Devin Neal ran the ball 18 times for 116 yards, scoring two touchdowns as well.
The BYU Cougars Team Preview!
Over on the BYU side, they kicked off the year on a nice winning streak—with a couple of close calls along the way. The Cougars took out Southern Illinois, SMU, Wyoming, Kansas State, Baylor, Arizona, Oklahoma State, and UCF in their first eight outings.
So, in the game against Utah, BYU was losing big time, 21-0 at halftime. But guess what? The Cougars made an epic comeback and won 22-21! Jake Retzlaff threw for 219 yards and even scored a rushing touchdown. And check this out, Chase Roberts caught six passes for 91 yards. These boys are playing some great football and i cant wait to see them on the field today!
The Kansas vs BYU Game Prediction!
The Pick: Kansas +9.5 -115
I’ll lean toward Kansas. The line doesn't leave much room for error, though. The Jayhawks had a nice offensive effort in their win over Iowa State with 532 total yards (295 passing), 7.6 yards per play, and 7-of-13 on third downs. Kansas let the Cyclones score in every quarter (including 23 second-half points), but the offense was usually able to respond.
So, BYU had this crazy win against the Utes last weekend, scoring a touchdown on a return and kicking three field goals to boost their offense. But man, their offense struggled to keep the momentum going, only converting 1 out of 12 third downs. On the bright side, the Cougars managed to snag three takeaways on defense, which kinda made up for their messy game with 10 penalties (a total of 20 penalties between both teams). I think Kansas could pull off a win if they play like the Utes did.
Why the Kansas Jayhawks will win
The team ranked 7th in the AP Poll has failed to cover the spread in eight of its last nine games.
Kansas has covered the spread in each of its last four games as an underdog against AP-ranked teams.
