Dearica Hamby continues to excel against her former team, posting 18 points and 10 rebounds to help the Los Angeles Sparks defeat the Las Vegas Aces 96-92 on Sunday night. Aari McDonald added a valuable 16 points off the bench. This win handed the Aces, the two-time defending champions, their second straight loss.

A’ja Wilson led all scorers with 31 points, and Kelsey Plum contributed 24 points for the Aces. Despite an early 14-0 run and extending their lead to 15 points during the game, the Aces couldn't maintain their advantage, allowing the Sparks to rally back. The result improved the Sparks record in Commissioner’s Cup play to 2-2, while the Aces dropped to 1-2.

Wilson reached a significant career milestone during the game, scoring her 4,000th point on a three-pointer in the second quarter. She became the third-fastest and fourth-youngest player to achieve this milestone. Rookie Kate “Money” Martin also shined for the Aces, making her first WNBA start and making the most of it, scoring a career-high 13 points, including a perfect 3-3 from three point land.

The fourth quarter was decisive for the Sparks. After the Aces turned a 78-71 deficit into an 82-78 lead with a 11-0 run, the Sparks responded with an 8-0 run to regain control and never looked back. Rickea Jackson and Rae Burrell each scored 7 points in the final period for Los Angeles, while Wilson led Las Vegas with 9 points. The Aces are navigating an unfamiliar territory after their recent success, exacerbated by the absence of star point guard Chelsea Gray and on Sunday night, without standout Jackie Young, who has been filling in admirably for Gray.

Next, the Las Vegas Aces will face the Minnesota Lynx in another Commissioners Cup matchup at home at Michelob Ultra Arena, scheduled for a 7 PM start and broadcast live on NBATV from Las Vegas.
