Its Sunday, June 1st, 2025 and a great day to get in on some WNBA action! This game marks the exciting start of the WNBA Commissioner's Cup, with the reigning champion Minnesota Lynx kicking off their title defense against the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center in San Francisco. This highly anticipated Western Conference showdown, which tips off at 8:30 PM ET, sees the Lynx as 10-point favorites with an over/under of 163.5 points, setting the stage for a thrilling opening day of Cup play.

Can The Lynx continue to dominate the WNBA?

The Minnesota Lynx are off to a scorching 6-0 start in the 2025 WNBA season, most recently extending their winning streak with a tough 74-71 road victory over the Phoenix Mercury, largely thanks to their suffocating defense. While they struggled from the field themselves, excellent performances from Kayla McBride, Alanna Smith, and Courtney Williams helped secure the win despite leading scorer Napheesa Collier missing her first game due to a knee injury. Even without Collier, the Lynx are proving to be one of the league's top teams, excelling on both offense and defense, particularly in three-point defense and limiting free throws.
Will The Valkyries snap this two-game losing streak?

The Golden State Valkyries are on a two-game losing streak, including a recent 82-77 defeat to the New York Liberty, though they did cover the spread against the reigning champions. Despite the losses, they showcased strong defense and rebounding, with rookie Janelle Salaun leading the team with an impressive 18 points and 13 rebounds against the Liberty. The Valkyries have four players averaging double-digit points, including Salaun and Kayla Thornton, but their offense currently ranks 13th in the WNBA while their defense sits at 8th.

The Lynx Vs. Valkyries Game Prediction!

THE PICK: Lynx -10 -112
Even without Napheesa Collier, I'm still backing the Minnesota Lynx to cover the spread in this matchup. The Lynx are a powerhouse on defense, and I expect them to shut down a Golden State Valkyries offense that already struggles to score. The Valkyries rely heavily on the three-ball, taking the most three-pointers in the league, but they're also the worst at actually making them, hitting only 27.7%. Given that the Lynx are excellent at defending beyond the arc, it's going to be a tough night for Golden State's shooters. Plus, Minnesota has plenty of depth to make up for Collier's absence. Keep an eye on Kayla McBride; she's a dangerous three-point shooter, and the Valkyries have a tough time defending triples, giving up 10 per game at a 36.8% clip.
