Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars Game 1 Recap:

Game 1 of the Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars, was quite an interesting game to say the least. The first period of this game was quite slow with both teams playing very tight defensively and not letting much spacing and zone entries for either side. The 2nd period was quite the opposite... The offenses came out of the gates flying as Leon Draisaitl gave Edmonton the 1-0 lead just :58 seconds into the period. That goal was assisted by Kulak and Hyman. Just over 3 minutes later, Edmonton found the back of the net past Oettinger again as Zach Hyman fought off two Dallas defenders to put it five hole against Otter. This goal was solely assisted by Captain Connor McDavid. Less then two minutes after Edmonton took a 2-0 lead, the Dallas Stars clawed right back to make it a 2-1 game with a Tyler Seguin Goal Assisted by veteran forward, Jamie Benn. The teams went to the dressing room in a 2-1 game with DAL outshooting EDM 17-16. EDM opened up the 3rd period with a :43 second PP that leaked over through a late TMM penalty on the Dallas Stars. The Oilers failed to convert on this opportunity. No real opportunities until the 12 minute mark in the 3rd Period where the Oilers started to find a couple of scoring opportunities that sent Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger scrambling. The next big scoring opportunity came around the 6:45 marker when Lundell made an incredible defensive play on Captain Connor McDavid. THE EQUALIZER: Tyler Seguin found the equalizer with 3:23 remaining in the 3rd Period on a incredible Dadonov deflection pass to the front of the net where Seguin easily barried it for his 2nd goal of the night. Stuart Skinner was able to fight off a couple last second scoring opportunities from the Dallas Stars and this game will head to some BONUS hockey in Austin! Just 17 seconds into overtime the Dallas Stars got a 4 minute Powerplay for high-sticking. IMO - VERY controversial as there was no call on the ice for high-sticking to my knowledge and only reviewed after the next whistle... Interesting... 25 seconds into the PP, they hit the right post and Skinner recovered, then just 8 seconds after Jason Robertson hit the post AGAIN! The Oilers manage to kill off the 4 minute penalty with the help of Skinner's bestfriend! For the next 5 minutes or so, ice got tilted back and forth with both goalies making a couple of great saves but to no prevail. With 5:21 left in the OT period Oettinger made an incredible stick save on Connor McDavid to SAVE the game with just a tip of the stick! END OF 1ST OT: Just 32 seconds into the OT frame Connor McDavid finds the back of the net after an incredible pass from young star defensemen Evan Bouchard. This is my first live game recap and I already have a new format to make this better for y'all but here is today's recap! For more post-game analysis and game two preview... KEEP READING !!!

Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars Game Preview

Draisaitl, McDavid vs. Johnston, Oettinger, and Tanev.

The Dallas Stars lose a 2OT thriller against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday Night that leaked into the early parts of Friday just past midnight. This game was quite a good one as a little series preview for the Western Conference Finals. There are some players I want to highlight here ...

  • Stuart Skinner showed up stopping 31 shots on 33 SOG (.939 SV%).

  • Jake Oettinger also showed up stopping 35 shots on 38 SOG (.921 SV%).

  • Mattias Ekholm continues to show up on both sides of the rink offensively and defensively, a couple of great plays and scoring chances.

  • Tyler Seguin with an incredible performance scoring 2 G on 6 SOG. Continues to be an absolute stud in the 2024 playoffs.

  • Miro Heiskanen lead all players in TOI with 33:08 minutes.

  • Connor McDavid pops the GWG in 2OT for just his 3rd goal this playoffs.

GAME 2 PREDICTION:

Edmonton Oilers

ChaseTheLock's Prediction: Edmonton Oilers ML (+114)

Last Game Prediction: EDM Oilers ML (+110) ✅

Record: 1-0 (+1.1u) YTD

We went with the Edmonton Oilers in game 1 of the Western Conference Finals... Now I find myself right back to the Oilers after watching closely to game 1. Connor McDavid picking up the 2OT winner will give a great deal of momentum for McDavid who has been struggling to put pucks in the back of the net this playoffs and has been much more lenient on his passing ability. Do not get me wrong the narrative play here would be the Oilers to lose and the Stars tie it 1-1, BUT I am going the other direction and think that Edmonton will find themselves going back to Edmonton up 2-0. In my game 1 article for the Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars, I discussed how important it was for the bottom 6 Edmonton Oilers forwards to step up if they wanted to win. Two of them caught my eye: 1. Ryan McLeod, 3rd line center. I thought that he did quite a good job in the TOI he had hustling for pucks and backchecking as well. 2. Connor Brown, 4th line RW. This man surprised me the most out of anyone. Hustling for pucks to call off icing, and making incredible backchecks and defensive plays to turn the ice. These two did not show up on the scoresheet but there were plays made that definitely could swing the outcome of the hockey game. Defensively, the Oilers are really starting to show up defensively; Oilers defensemen combined for 17 Blocked Shots! Stuart Skinner had quite a great performance in net which definitely gave Edmonton fans a sigh of relief. The Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars series is going to be a good one! Bold bet, let's see how it goes! Best of luck if you are tailing!
