Edmonton Oilers vs. Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Finals Game 7: Prediction, Analysis, Preview

Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Finals

The Edmonton Oilers look to become the 2nd team in NHL history to complete a 3-0 comeback in the Stanley Cup Finals! The Edmonton Oilers have all the momentum, can Florida shut them down in game 7? Monday, June 24th, 8:00pm EST in Sunrise Florida.

Betting Odds: EDM/FLA ML (-110), Over 5.5 (+125), Under 5.5 (-160)

The Two Best Words in Hockey: Game Seven.

There is no better words then game seven. Getting NHL hockey till the last week in June is amazing. A great kickoff to the summer ahead and I have never been so excited. With game 7 comes a lot of different trends and angles so we will make sure to go into those through this article. The ability of the Edmonton Oilers to fight through games 4-6 and force a game 7 in itself is unbelievable. I would have thought this series would be over in 5 maybe 6. I did not see a way that Florida dropped 3 straight games. However, this Florida Panthers offense has gone stagnant and Sergei Bobrovsky looks like your local high school's JV hockey goalie as of late. The guy has been having trouble seeing the puck and the amount that guy loses his stick you'd think it was covered in butter. Stuart Skinner has been the better goalie in this Stanley Cup Finals ever since his team was faced with this 3-0 deficit and he is not the only one. This whole Florida Panthers team has been horrendous and their top point scorers, such as: Sam Reinhart (3), Aleksander Barkov (5), and Matthew Tkachuk (3), have not been producing. Meanwhile, Connor McDavid has had his fair share of point-gathering 11 points (3 G, 8 A). Captain Connor also does not need points to score... for the first time in the McDavid era in Edmonton, EDM won game 6 and Connor McDavid did not record a point or a SOG. That should be very scary news if you are in Florida.

Game 7 Historical Betting Trend(s)

If you have been reading my articles in this Stanley Cup Final, you would know one thing: I have LOVED taking the over. The books are setting this line of over 5.5 @ +130. An absolute trap of a line if you ask me. Why? Well, there have been 17 game sevens in the Stanley Cup Final throughout the history of the NHL. In these games, sixteen out of the seventeen have gone U5.5. Only one game has gone over the set over line and it was back in 1950 between the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers. The game ended in 2OT and to this day is the only game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final in NHL history that went to 2OT (1954 DET/MTL went to OT). The books have this line adjusted to the trend so just be aware when you go to place your total goals bet for game seven. Home teams technically have an edge when it comes to playing in games seven: 12-5 in the 17 SCF game 7's we have seen. Another important trend to note early is who scores the first goal in this one. In Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, the team that scores first has ended up winning the game in twelve out of the seventeen games in NHL History. A lot of trends to note and more will come out on the broadcast of the game that gets discovered throughout. This will be a very tricky game to pick which is why my prediction below, is quite simple.

Game 6 Takeaways

  • After multiple games of special teams goals, there were NONE in game 6

  • Desperation measures in Game 6 led to TWO empty net goals for the Edmonton Oilers

  • The Edmonton Oilers scored THREE unanswered goals to start the game, two from the first line, one from the third line

  • Sergei Bobrovsky finished the game with a .852 SV %, Stuart Skinner finished the game with a .952 SV %

  • Florida had a GOAL taken off the board for offsides that were to the disbelief of the Florida Panthers bench

Edmonton Oilers vs. Florida Panthers Game 7 Prediction

ChaseTheLock Prediction: Edmonton Oilers MONEYLINE (-105) 1.05u

ChaseTheLock Record: 7-5-1 (+1.4u)

Call me crazy... I do not care, at all... This team is absolute magic and can fight back and has proven this over and over again. This Edmonton team has all the momentum heading back to Florida and probably feels great in the position that they are in. Some say that the pressure is on Edmonton but it is not. Florida has been in this same position just last year and does not want to be on the wrong side of history and Stanley Cup Finals two years in a row. The Florida Panthers are an absolute mess it seems both offensively and defensively while on another hand, Edmonton is figuring it out both offensively and defensively. It's a 7 game series for a reason and Edmonton is proving that right now. Edmonton should stick this one out after the way they have been playing and have scored the first goal in three straight games! I have to ride with Connor McDavid and the top dawgs on this Oilers team. I am not a fan of Florida, they're a bunch of rats and do not want it like Edmonton does. The Paul Maurice bench reaction when they lose is going to put a smile on my face from ear to ear.
