Game 2 Recap
Not a lot to say about this game here ... A lot of back and forth hockey that limits offensive production and zone time which seems unusually more common then it has been in previous years. Defense definitely tightens up in the playoffs with the Stanley Cup on the line but it is alarming how defensive minded these teams have been in the playoffs. Saw some back and forth scoring opportunities throughout, starting with Trocheck's goal which was assisted by Fox and Panarin. The game-tying goal came with just under 2 minutes remaining in the first period when Carter Verhaeghe barried one on the Powerplay to tie the game at 1. This goal was assisted by Sam Bennett and Anton Lundell. Not much to say for action past the 1st period with the 2nd and 3rd period both going scoreless. The teams went into the OT period tied at one a piece and NYR desperate for a win to avoid going down 2-0 in the series and dropping both games AT HOME. Luckily, assistant captain Barclay Goodrow stepped up to the play to snipe a GWG in OT that found it's way bast FLA goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. This goal came off a quick breakout lob from defensemen Jacob Trouba who batted the puck out of mid air and made a forward pass to Vincent Trocheck... Once Trocheck and the Rangers established the zone, Trocheck made a quick pass too Goodrow who burried it to the back of the net to send the Madison Square Garden crowd into a frenzy.
Keys to Game 3 in Sunrise
A couple major things to touch on since this is my first article for this series... There is no doubt in my mind that the Florida Panthers are the better hockey team depth wise. The New York Rangers have the better goaltender, but that is about it when it comes down to it... The Florida Panthers have an incredible depth at the forward position and even at the back end, there bottom pair is 100x better then the New York Rangers bottom pair. The New York Rangers have not been able to produce an incredible amount of offense both this series and late in the Carolina series which is definitely starting to make me nervous... However, Florida has not either by not being able to get pucks go past Vezina Finalist SNUB in goaltender Igor Shesterkin. As much as I want to bash on Sergei Bobrovsky, he actually is a Vezina Finalist and has started to find his rhythm lately only allowing 1 goal total in the first 2 games of this series. What I need to see in game 3 is for the Rangers to stay out of the penalty box who have been a average disciplined team and the Panthers to stay out of the penalty box who have not been a disciplined team at all getting some of the highest numbers in PIM/G across the whole NHL. You'll find out why I NEED this if you keep reading to the end with my GAME PREDICTION... New York has to stop going on these runs where they go shotless for 10-12 minutes at a time - it will KILL them down the stretch. Just 5 minutes in they had 6 SOG and in the 2nd period I check and they have 8, it is just unacceptable and can not happen. This is exactly what I saw with my hometown team Boston Bruins against these guys. Hard to win when you do not shoot the puck on the net consistently for the 60 minute game.

NYR/FLA Game 3 Prediction:
ChaseTheLocks Prediction: Under 5.5 (-130)
Record YTD: 1-0 (+1.1u) , Pending: Oilers ML (+114) ⌛
This almost seems like an automatic bet the way these two offensives have been both sluggish, and goalies have been incredible. When it comes down to it, there is no two better goalies to be matched up right now in the Eastern Conference and the scored have proved it, only combining for 6 goals in 2 games thus far. Another important note... this game just went to OT and they played an extra 14 minutes of hockey, and it is a travel night most likely for both sides. Why? Game 3 has a controversial start time of 3:00pm EST. Less then 48 hours to travel from New York to Florida, and then get ready for a game 3 during the day? I expect both offenses too come out slow and rusty. The only thing that we DO NOT want to see is a goaltender to come out slow but usually with these scenarios it is the offensive production that comes to a halt which we have seen all series anyway... Big fan of this under especially with learning that it is a 3:00pm start! Do better ABC! If you enjoyed this article, check me out on X!
